Trillium Grant
We have been successful with our Trillium proposal and will receive $75,000 to restore the schoolhouse. We had asked for $130,000 to bring it up to code, install a wheelchair accessible bathroom & finish the basement with a proper archival storage room. So we have some fundraising to do! Please consider renewing your membership or joining TTHS.

Oakville Arts Society Grant
We Have received $2,000 to purchase some tables and chairs and also to print letterhead, pamphlets and to cover mailing costs.

Membership Renewals
With the Trillium Grant we received it looks like 2008 will be another exciting year for the Trafalgar Township Historical Society. Our membership runs from January 1st to December 31st 2008. Those who have renewed their membership, we thank you, for those who haven't please do so by sending a cheque made payable to the Trafalgar Township Historical Society and mail to TTHS c/o Jane Watt, 3089 Jaguar Valley Drive, Apt. B2, Mississauga, Ontario L5A 2J1, thank you.

In Kind Donations
We need old school desks. It will cost about $200 each to purchase desks from antique stores so this is going to get very costly. If you have an old school desk we would be happy to give it a new home.
We are looking for companies who can donate items that we need for the schoolhouse restoration like: drywall, metal studs, fire extinguishers, metal shelving, large metal filing cabinet, lighting, flooring, and a dumpster or truck to haul away debris.

School House Clean Up Saturday, April 26
Join us at 9:30 am to clean off some of our donated school desks, tidy up the school grounds, clean out the basement and maybe start stripping the wainscotting if we have enough people.

Hamilton Educational Museum
A few of us will be travelling to Hamilton on April 29th to see what resources they are able to donate to the Palermo Schoolhouse. Please contact Michelle if you would like to join us. michelle@tths.ca

One Room Schoolhouse Memories
Please email or mail us your stories of one room schoolhouses to help us gather information on Trafalgar Twp schools.

Visit to Halton Regional Museum
We had the opportunity to review the new donation to the museum of Biggar family archives. There was a tax bill for 1855 Michael L. Biggar 2 NDS lot 15 and a diary and a few photos. There was a letter to his father R.L.? Biggar of Walpole, Talbot Dist. Sept 1848. Michael's wife was Belinda and Willie- likely a son- was mentioned a number of times in the diary as were the McDuffees. We also looked over the School Board fonds which inlcuded a record book for Merton School from 1903-1933. We will be including the Merton information in our book on one room schoolhouses in Trafalgar that we are currently gathering information for. We visit the museum on once a month, usually on a Friday. Please feel free to contact us to join in. We are typically there from 10-2 and bring a bag lunch that we can now enjoy outside on a park bench.
