We would like to highlight local County & Township family farms and local agricultural producers. It their history and ongoing contribution to the history of our county & township community.
The Munn’s Farm, Lot 14 Conc 1SDS, is on the south side of Dundas Street, between Trafalgar Road and Sixth Line, one of 3 original 200-acre lots. Daniel Munn was granted Lot 15 in 1808. Daniel Munn was a U.S.-born settler who arrived in 1806, and he deeded land for a school and a church on this lot in 1808. Land was deeded behind the school in 1820 for a cemetery, now Munn’s United Church Cemetery. Daniel was buried there in 1822.
The Munn family farmhouse was constructed east of the cemetery, by King Henry (K.H.) Munn, son of Daniel and Millicent Post. The image is from the 1877 township survey, with Lot 15 highlighted.
Millicent Munn, daughter of H.K. Munn married R. Alexander Fleming. This began the 100-year history of the Fleming family farming on this lot.
From the 1940’s to the 1990’s, the Hays family owned the lot, as well as parts of Lot 13 and all of Lot 14.
