We had a large turnout on Tuesday April1, 2025 at the Heritage Palermo Schoolhouse (east of Dundas & Bronte Rd in Oakville) to hear Dave Hobden’s presentation “Part 1 – Canada’s Military History”.
Dave’s three-part adventure stretches from the distant past, when the European population of Canada was a grand total of thirteen persons, through the Ancien Regime, French and English struggles for dominance, fending of our dear cousins to the south, the birth of a Canadian military, rebellions and Monsieur Riel.
How many Times has Canada been Invaded?
How many times? The War of 1812 counts as one, the number will surprise you. While we look at ourselves as a peaceful people, the reality is that Canada has been fought over more than the south coast of England!
Dave’s collection of historical letters provides insight into some of the significant events of the times. Letters from Nicolas Marsolet, Edward Cornwallis, Benedict Arnold, Isaac Brock, George Prevost, and myriad individuals whose penned letters speak to us down through the ages.
