On June 3rd, the Trafalgar Township Historical Society hosted John McDonald as our speaker. John led us through the fascinating story behind the construction of the Halton County Court House and Gaol, built in 1855 when Milton was named the county town. John shared stories of the people, politics, and controversies involved in building this historic structure — one that has stood for over 170 years despite threats to its survival. We discovered how this Court House became a central part of Halton’s and Trafalgar Township’s history, from early county planning to dramatic court cases—even the county’s only public hangings, which took place just outside its doors.
